DAP Health Magazine | Freelance

Feature Writer | 2024
Commissioned to write a human-centered feature story exploring the critical role of language access in healthcare delivery for a leading community health network serving 88,000+ patients across Southern California.
Key Project:

"Language Access Leading to Better Health Outcomes" – Profiled Afghan refugee and medical interpreter Ahmad "Sam" Hakimi, highlighting how culturally competent interpretation services bridge communication gaps and prevent medical errors in diverse patient populations. The piece examined DAP Health's hybrid interpretation model (in-person and 200+ language telehealth services) and its strategic commitment to health equity. The story resonated deeply with both the subject and editorial leadership, with the editor noting it "brought chills" and the interpreter expressing that it "truly captured the importance of our work in patient care."

Impact: Featured in Issue Six of DAP Health Magazine (page 87), the article reinforced the organization's mission of ensuring every patient feels "seen, heard, and affirmed" while demonstrating the life-saving importance of accurate medical interpretation.
